On October 23, 2019, the Value of Water Campaign hosted our fifth annual day of action, Imagine a Day Without Water. Imagine a Day Without Water raises awareness about the value of water and the need to invest in water and wastewater infrastructure by asking Americans to imagine a day without life’s most essential resource.
Here are some highlights from Imagine A Day Without Water 2019:
- Organizational Participation: The movement keeps growing—we had over 1,240 organizations who signed up to participate. This is a 12 percent increase from last year, and there were many others engaged beyond the official sign ups.
- Public Officials: Across America, elected and public officials took part in Imagine a Day Without Water. They signed resolutions, issued proclamations, spoke at events, and joined the conversation on social media. While we do not have an official count of how many public officials engaged, we know that at least 35 proclamations and resolutions were issued from across the political spectrum. This included 27 mayors, several congres- sional representatives, and the governors of Tennessee and West Virginia.
- Social Media: Imagine A Day Without Water inundated social media with our message. Social media activities generated nearly 10 million impressions using #ValueWater and #ImagineADayWithoutWater.
- Student Engagement: Educating and engaging the next generation to value water is a crucial step in growing this day of advocacy and in building a brighter tomorrow. Dozens upon dozens of organizations partnered with local schools and universities to engage and educate students.
